Complete view of Daesongdong village
Currently, there are a total of 112 villages in the north of the CCL including Daesongdong ¡®freedom¡¯ village, which is located just below the MDL and first established on August, 1953 based on the ¡°Agreement About Civilian¡¯s Entrance Into DMZ¡±. Daesongdong ¡®freedom¡¯ Village is the only village that exists inside the DMZ. Villagers of Daesongdong are mostly engaged in a farming business and they are exempt from federal taxes and mandatory military draft.
